Preliminary task

Final preliminary task:
Front cover:
Contents page:
Evaluation: My school magazine is targeted at 16-18 year olds in the 6th form at Southfield school, I decided to aim it at this age group and school years as there is a lot of important news and information during these school periods so this magazine would be very useful.
My process:
Before making my school magazine I looked at other school magazines so I could see the vital features used.I took a variety of photos, I first started with Kim against a green screen and I started to remove the green screen but I had problems with this as when I used Final cut pro there was still green line around Kim, also the photo wasn't good quality.
After this I decided to take variety of photos outside a the lighting is better quality and gives a natural background in my magazine. The photo I decided to use is very natural but it also makes Kim the focal point in the image, I also took another photo her without Kim for my contents page so that my magazine has a house style.

Conventions:
The conventions I have used in my magazine are:

Masterhead-I decided for my magazine masterhead to use "Southfield News",I made "Southfield" in a larger font as this is the school's name so should be the focal point for the readers and "News" is below Southfield as it looks much smarter than having them both in a large font.

Selling cover line- The selling cover line on my magazine that would make the target audience pick up the magazine is "New modern common room for 6th form" as this exciting news for the 6th form as they would want to read about the new design of the common room.I placed the selling line next to Kim's shoulder as this is used in well known magazines like Vogue so that the selling line stands out.

Cover lines- I decided to use four cover-lines on my front cover as it makes the magazine look less cluttered but still gives the audience information about what is inside the magazine. Also I decided to keep all of the cover lines in the same font however change the font size of some of the cover-lines as some were more important than others.

Main Image- My main image was of Kim who is a student at Southfield school in the 6th form, I choose to use a student in the 6th form as it will then appeal to them more than if it was a image of lower years.Kim was placed to the right hand side of the magazine as it allowed space for cover-lines and so that it didn't look cluttered on the front cover.

Technology used:
When I was using the green screen at the beginning of my preliminary task, I used Final cut pro to remove the green screen behind my model however I didn't like the look of this so I took a new image.
One of the main technology I used was Pixlr on Google as it allowed me to edit my photos and adjust the lighting, which gave the image a more professional look. Finally I used Fotor on Google to make my contents page much lighter and transparent so that it wasn't as harsh but still fitted in with my front cover.

Strengths:
The feedback given to me by my target audience are that I made a house style by using similar background images for my front cover and contents page which allowed them to look for professional as you can see the link. Also another strength is that my image is very clear and good quality and the magazine is something that the school would produce.

Weakness and changes I will make next time:
The weaknesses of my magazine are that the master-head isn't very bold and quite small, so next time I will make sure the master-head is clear and a focal point of my magazine. Also I need to balance the cover-lines on my front cover as they're just on one side which makes the magazine un-even.The changes I will make next time is looking at more magazines to look at the layout of the front cover and try to use the green screen to get a more professional look by using a better quality camera and programme.
